The Story Behind Toh Ha Spa
Some journeys begin with a simple desire: to explore, to discover, to find a place that feels like home. Toh Ha Spa is the result of one such journey. Starting in 1996, with a leap of faith and a passion for the ocean, leaving behind the misty landscapes of England, the dream was to seek out warm Caribbean waters and a life shaped by nature. Mexico became home, and for years, the days were spent diving beneath the turquoise waves as a scuba instructor, eventually leading to the creation of a successful dive shop in the stunning locations of Xpu-Ha and Puerto Aventuras.
But the call of the jungle was fierce. In 2004, after selling the dive business, the next adventure took shape when 10,000 square meters of untouched jungle became the foundation for a new home. With an appreciation for the land, the vision for Toh Ha Spa slowly came to fruition—a place where travelers could experience the beauty of the Riviera Maya in a way that felt intimate, restorative, and deeply connected to nature.

Where Does The
Name Come From
Toh comes from the Mayan name for the turquoise-browed motmot, a vibrant bird that nests in cenotes and caves. Each year, several pairs make their home on the property, filling the air with their graceful swoops. Ha means water in Mayan, symbolizing our cenote—a window into the underground rivers of the Yucatán Peninsula—while Spa represents the rejuvenating treatments available, from massages to facials, made to enhance your relaxation during your stay.
